Ohiya is one of the well known villages situated close to the highest plateau Horton Plains. Located in the District of Badulla and 1774m above the mean sea level. The famous Colombo Baddulla Railway Track falls through Ohiya making easy access to this cool hamlet. With very little population and rich natural beauty, Ohiya provides another gateway to the Horton Plains through cloud forests, pine and eucalyptus trees.
The railways in either side from the Ohiya have significant values. In the railway between Ohiya & Idalgashinna, there are 13 tunnels which is the highest number of tunnels between two railway stations. On the otherside; from Ohiya to Pattipola you will get the 3rd longest and the dark tunnel which you will enter from the Uva Province and get out from the Central Province.
Few kilometers on the way to Horton Plains from Ohiya, you will get the Udaweriya Junction where there is a road to Bambarakanda Waterfall which is the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka via Devil’s Staircase. In this route you can see all the way to Dondra on the left and Hambantota on the right with Udawalawe, Samanalawewa Haputale etc in the foreground.
Our campsite is located in Udaweriya with only few kilometers to Horton Plains. Nature Walk in the Horton Plains is the only way to explore and feel the natural beauties in this area of 3160 ha. An adventure walk to Bambarakanda Waterfall could be arranged during your stay where another walk to visit the railway tracks, villages can be arranged on your request.
